Council Tax Shock
Huntingbridge Unitary Authority's recent Council Tax raise of 5.5% has now been capped by the government to 2.5%. This cap is also relevant to the Fire Service and Police Authority parts of the tax. Chief Constable Irwin Bottle said "This cut could impact on our ability to provide adequate cover across the Huntingbridge District and I shall be writing to the government asking them to re-consider."
Cars Broken Into
Five vehicles were broken into on the Truro Street Car Park last Wednesday night. Local residents complained that lack of CCTV cameras in this area of town was unfortunate as most of the rest of the town was well served. A council spokesman stated that due to a lack of street lighting in the locality the installation of CCTV is currently not cost effective.
Disorder
There was large scale disorder in Huntingbridge last Friday night. Local Police Inspector David Tongue said "This was a brawl between young people from Huntingbridge and Springford. They had all been in the LIFE nightclub and met up outside the burger van at the rear of the shopping centre. Several shop windows were smashed and there were injuries to the two police officers who attended the scene." Inspector Tongue said that this was the most recent in a history of problems in this area.
